The National Arts Club hosts Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop | Works from the Bank of America Collection in its newly-renovated galleries, on view now through November 4.
Visitors to the historic club are invited to tour two floors of works, including portfolios and prints, by the iconic Pop artist Andy Warhol. The exhibition, held at the NAC’s landmark clubhouse on Gramercy Park in New York City, is free to the public and open daily. Reservations to visit the galleries should be made via the club’s website.
Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop features selections from Warhol’s 40-year span of work in the art of photographic silkscreen printmaking. While many of the pieces on display were created in the 1970s and ’80s, their subject matter — iconic people, trends, and issues — remains prescient, reflecting the artist’s decades-long process of mirroring popular American culture.
From rather mundane still lifes of fruits to portraits of comic characters and endangered species, Warhol transformed photographic imagery in his work through color, design, form, and multiples. Due to printmaking’s infinite possibilities, his portfolios contain a vast array of artistic techniques, ranging from collage and drawing to color variation and the use of diamond dust.
The National Arts Club galleries are open daily from 10am to 5pm. This exhibition has been loaned through the Bank of America Art in our Communities® program.
